Rolling Block single shot breech-loading rifle manufactured by Remington between 1914-1915 under contract for the French military, who required additional. The muzzle ring and lower hooked guard are in place and good. This one has a steel pommel with release button that is functional, wood grips that are tightly fitted to the metal and rate good, though with four narrow scratches on one side and two deeper ones on the other. The bayonet follows the general pattern of sword bayonet supplied by Remington on its foreign contracts, though the exact dimensions were specified in the French contracts. The French government designated rifle as the Remington Rifle Model 1914, buying just over 100,000 of them chambered for the 8mm Lebel cartridge and fitted with sword bayonets, freeing up more modern weapons for front line combat troops.
